Research priorities
Five themes aligned with Somalia's national development priorities: livestock, agriculture, fisheries, health and education.
Five priority themes
Health and nutrition
Maternal and child health, infectious disease, nutrition and health services.
Food security and livestock
Dryland farming, livestock health and value chains.
Climate, water and the blue economy
Drought, floods, rivers, coastal resources and fisheries.
Governance and society
Public administration, law, peace-building and social protection.
Digital economy and AI
Mobile money, digital services, data and AI for Somali languages.
Aligned with national plans
Somalia's national development plan puts livestock, agriculture, fisheries, health and education at the centre of growth. In 2026 a national skills committee also began work on digital, agriculture and livestock, manufacturing and entrepreneurship skills. Our research themes follow these priorities so that results are useful to policy makers.
