Our history

From one campus in Hodan district, Mogadishu, to a university of eleven campuses across Somalia and online.

Where it began

Founded to rebuild through education

Plasma University was founded in Mogadishu in 2005, at a time when Somalia needed to rebuild its institutions and train a new generation of professionals. The founders chose a simple purpose that is still the university motto today: Barbaariyaha Bulshada – the educator of society.

The first students studied health sciences, business and computing – the skills the country needed most for hospitals, banks, telecoms and public services.

2026

One digital university

All campuses move onto one university system for students, finance and records, and the new public website and app are launched.

Growing with Somalia

Every new campus was opened for the same reason: young people in the regions wanted a university education without leaving their families and communities. Today Plasma graduates work as nurses, doctors, accountants, engineers, teachers, civil servants and entrepreneurs across the country.

Help us complete our history. Alumni, former staff and founders are invited to share photos, dates and stories of the early years with the university communications office.
